I think my child may need a tutor. Can you recommend someone to us? If you think your child needs a tutor, send me an email ([email protected]) and I will give you the contact information of a few WCPSS teachers on our approved tutor list.
My child was/will be absent for several school days. Will they be able to make up missed work? Yes, please see the MAKE UP WORK (due to absences) – Board Policy 6000 section of the Wakefield grading policy for details.
How should my child get their make up work from being absent? When the student returns to school they can retrieve their make up work in the back of the classroom. Any missed class notes can be retrieved from the "Class Notes" binder and any missed worksheets can be picked up from the "Missed work" folders. If a student is absent for more than three consecutive school days then parents may request to have make up work sent down to student services to be picked up. Please email Mrs. Mays ([email protected]) to make this request.
My child has a zero in Power Schools because they did not turn in the assignment, can it still be completed for credit? Please see the LATE-WORK (not due to absences) section of the Wakefield grading policy on the schools website.
When will PowerSchools be updated? PowerSchools will be updated weekly. Assignments turned in late will be reflected on PowerSchools approximately one week after the assignment has been submitted.
How do I request a parent conference? Email Mr. Yoder ([email protected]), our team leader, so that we can set up a time to meet with the team. For more information see the Parent Conference page on the schools website.
My child is having trouble accessing Canvas, what should we do? The most common reason that students cannot get onto Canvas is they have forgotten their password. I will be happy to help the students reset their password before school, after school, or in-between classes. Occasionally Canvas will be down due to scheduled maintenance or unusually high traffic. During these occurrences students should wait approximately 30 to 45 minutes before continuing to Canvas.
What is Wolf-Time? Wolf-time takes place during the last 30 minutes of the school day everyday. During this time the students can work on homework, receive extra help, or read.
What is the Positivity Project? A social and emotional learning curriculum. There is additional information about the Positivity Project curriculum on the school website.
My child did poorly on an assessment (quiz/test). Can anything be done to improve this grade? Students scoring below a 70% on a test or major project will have the opportunity to complete test corrections. Students can earn a maximum score of 70%. Please see the Wakefield grading policy for more details.
Can my child complete an extra credit assignment? Extra credit assignments are only offered to students who have not demonstrated mastery of a standard. Extra credit is not to be used to "boost grades." The purpose of these assignments is to offer a student, who is struggling to meet the grade level academic requirements, an intervention opportunity. Therefore, if a student has an average of a C or greater, extra credit will not be offered to that student. Please see the Wakefield grading policyfor more details.
